Voltage Tester Guide

How to Use It

Follow these steps carefully to perform a basic live-voltage check.

Hold the tester correctly

Hold the tester only by the insulated handle.

Position the tip

Place the flat tip on the conductor or terminal you want to test.

Touch the contact

Touch the metal contact at the end of the handle with your finger.

Check the indicator

If voltage is present, the indicator inside the handle will illuminate.

Traditional one-contact voltage tester screwdrivers use a very small current through the user to complete the circuit and illuminate the internal neon indicator.

  • Intended only for basic live-voltage indication.
  • Always verify the tester on a known live source before and after use.
  • Do not use it as the sole method to confirm that a circuit is de-energized.
