This project shows how Shelly devices can turn one photovoltaic (PV) installation into an energy-sharing network between two households. By linking the production from my PV system with both my home and my girlfriend’s house, we’ve created a setup where surplus energy doesn’t go to waste — it powers devices where it’s needed most.
Using a Shelly Pro 3EM to measure production and consumption at my house and a Shelly EM Gen3 to track usage at hers, the system knows exactly when extra energy is available. Shelly Plus 1PM and Shelly Plug S Gen3 then activate specific appliances in her home, following set priorities to ensure energy is used efficiently.
Everything is monitored and controlled through the Shelly Smart Control app, offering full visibility and manual override when needed.
The result? Lower costs, smarter energy use, and a real-world example of “community energy.” This simple two-home setup proves how renewable energy can be shared responsibly — and the concept could easily scale to more homes, creating local energy communities that make better use of shared solar resources while promoting sustainability.
